Everyone wants to keep their vehicles running well on the road. But it seems like too many drivers neglect or put off the routine maintenance and service that their cars need to stay in good working condition. We understand that you lead a busy life and that taking your car in for auto service can be a hassle. This is why we make it as convenient as possible at Jim Ellis Chevrolet so you won’t miss regular service appointments for your car, truck, or SUV.

Your vehicle consists of many moving parts that work together to help you get wherever you are going safely and efficiently. If something goes wrong with one part, it can start to impact the other systems on your vehicle, reducing efficient performance or even causing irreparable damage to the entire car. Bringing your vehicle here for routine service and maintenance on a regular basis will help keep that from happening and give you many years of exceptional performance. Our team is here to help you with all your automotive needs—from routine service to major repairs. No matter the reason, you will get the attention you need from our trained technicians and the dedication to give you the best service experience you have ever had.

Our Services

Our service department can repair or replace any part on your vehicle. We have a team of technicians who can handle maintenance on any car, truck, or SUV. This means that no matter what you need to have done on your vehicle, we are capable of assisting you.

When you come in for a routine service appointment, we will change your oil and oil filter. We will check your tires to measure the wear on your treads and, if necessary, recommend a tire rotation. Sometimes, your cabin air filter needs to be replaced. If you notice any unpleasant odors when using the heating or air conditioning, this could be a sign. Our technician will check the various fluid levels on your vehicle, such as brake fluid and coolant. We will top these up if they are a little low. This is all part of the multi-point vehicle inspection that we will perform during your visit. We will let you know items that require immediate attention while also noting those that will need to be addressed in the future, perhaps at your next visit.

Aside from routine maintenance, we can also replace your battery if you are having issues starting your car. We can replace your windshield wipers if you are experiencing streaking. If your tire treads are getting worn or you experience a puncture in the sidewall, you can get new tires that are a perfect match for your vehicle right here. We offer only genuine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts from AC Delco, so you can be confident the job is being done right.

We also provide servicing for other parts of your vehicle. If you notice squeaking or squealing, this could be a sign that your brake pads need to be replaced. It could also mean that you may have a bent rotor. Whatever the reason, we can assist with every repair on your vehicle’s brakes. Similarly, if your vehicle pulls to one side when you step on the brakes, this could mean that your wheels need to be realigned. Our team can help you with this as well. We can even perform major repairs on your car’s engine, transmission, drivetrain, or electrical system.

The Importance of Routine Maintenance

When your car is driving well, you may begin to take some things for granted. However, if you wait for things to start to go wrong on your vehicle, you may put yourself in a dangerous situation. For example, the engine oil on your vehicle is vital to keep all the engine parts and transmission lubricated. As the oil passes through the system, it cools down the parts and keeps them from damaging each other. Still, over time, the oil begins to break down from the engine’s heat and the minute metal fragments that get picked up from the moving parts. If you do not routinely change your oil at least as often as recommended by your car’s manufacturer, you could start to do damage to your vehicle. Over time, you run the risk of your engine seizing up.

You may find a similar problem if you don’t have your tires rotated regularly. The tires on your car do not wear evenly. The rear ones get used more if you have a rear-wheel drive car, while front-wheel drive vehicles put more pressure on the front wheels. Moreover, left turns and right turns cause differing wear on your tires. By rotating the tires, you start to even out the wear on the tire treads. If you neglect this, you can reduce the lifespan of your tires. In addition, this could result in poor traction and the need for longer stopping distances, which can result in an increased risk of a collision. The same can happen if you don’t get your brake pads checked and allow them to become worn. Coming in for routine maintenance and service will help you avoid these issues while increasing the lifespan of your vehicle.

FAQs About Auto Service

Here are some of the most common FAQs we receive at our service department:

How often should I get my oil changed?

This is probably the most common question we get. For most vehicles, you should get it changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. However, if you drive fast or use your brakes a lot, you may need to get it changed more often. The same goes for older models. Some models use full-synthetic oil, which can go up to 15,000 miles between oil changes. In any event, you should never go longer than 12 months between oil changes. Our team will let you know the right time interval for your vehicle.

Do I need snow tires?

In the past, most tires did not have sufficient tread to handle snow and ice. Today, however, most models have either all-weather or all-terrain tires that should be sufficient for wintry weather conditions. For folks who drive sports cars with summer tires, they will need to invest in a set of snow tires if they wish to drive their cars during the winter months.

Why do my brakes squeal? Why does my car pull to one side when I come to a stop?

If you hear a squeal or squeak when you step on the brake pedal, it could mean that your brake pads have become worn or that you have a bent rotor. You should bring your car in to get your brakes serviced when this happens. If you feel your car pull to one side when you brake, this could mean that your wheels are out of alignment. Our team can help you with a brake realignment.

What is the proper air pressure for my tires?

There is a sticker in the lower door well on the driver’s side of your vehicle that lists the recommendation from your car’s manufacturer for proper tire pressure. Keep in mind that tire pressure drops when temperatures get cold and increases in warmer weather. Low tire pressure can also be an indication of a tire puncture.

How often should I rotate my tires?

In general, most tire manufacturers recommend that they be rotated every 5,000 to 8,000 miles. This should coincide with your routine oil changes, so it is a good idea to have this done at the same time.
