2023 Chevy Tahoe Details

We live in an age where the SUV is known for being small in size and adaptable to confined city streets and urban driving. And while this is undoubtedly ideal for the family-oriented consumer who calls the city limits home, there once was a time when the SUV was built to be large and accommodate storage and seating needs that could be only described as astronomical. And while many manufacturers have turned their attention to the further development of compact and crossover SUVs, there still exists a need for the full-sized vehicle that offers room for everything, be it seating, storage, or both at the same time.

These needs, and many others, are met with the 2023 Chevy Tahoe. Slightly shorter than its older sibling, the Chevy Suburban, the Tahoe has been making a sizable impression since it began rolling off the assembly lines back in 1995. This legacy continues in 2023, and for those who are in need of a vehicle that can carry it all and even brave the off-beaten path, the Chevy Tahoe once again proves its dominance among its class. Join us today as we take a closer look at a vehicle that’s large, in charge, and an example of what capability and performance can do for you.

Performance

A blue 2023 Chevy Tahoe is shown parked in front of a house.

As any physics student will attest to, a large object needs a capable amount of force to generate momentum and forward propulsion. And when it comes to a vehicle such as the Chevy Tahoe, this is found in the powertrain. The Tahoe and the V8 engine have shared a highly effective partnership since the early days, and eight cylinders are what two of the three options available for the 2023 Tahoe consist of.

Engine Options

The standard offering for the Tahoe takes the form of a 5.3L V8 that propels the vehicle forward with the aid of 355 hp and the capacity to generate 383 lb-ft of torque. For those who want more in the performance department, a larger V8 is in the form of a 6.2L. With 420 hp and the ability to generate 460 lb-ft of torque, there’s very little that this workhorse can’t accomplish. A new engine also makes an appearance for the 2023 model year. Similar to the Silverado, Duramax brings diesel power to the Tahoe with its 3.0L six-cylinder powertrain, providing 277 hp and the capability to match the larger V8 with 460 lb-ft of torque. All three engines are equipped with GM’s ten-speed Allison automatic transmission for optimum performance and capability.

Towing Capabilities

Towing capacities vary on engine and drivetrain. In order to get the highest capacity, you’ll need to make use of the 5.3L V8 with the Max Trailering package. When applied to a 2WD version of the Tahoe, you’ll be able to pull 8,400 lbs with minimal difficulty. The same package and drivetrain with the other engine options are still highly capable of accomplishing the task at hand. The 6.2L V8 can pull 8,300, and the diesel can still handle a load of up to 8,200 lbs.

Off-Road Enhancements

Aside from towing and pushing the Tahoe forward, the vehicle can also be formulated for the world of off-roading, thanks to the Z71 trim. With standard 4WD, a suspension geared towards traveling off the beaten path, and a ground clearance of eight inches, this is for the individual who has a sense of adventure and needs some extra storage space (or seating) for their journeys into the unknown. The first-in-class Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension that Chevy has introduced for 2023 is undoubtedly bound to be one feature that gets discussed among critics and consumers alike.

Interior

Now that we’ve taken the time to dissect what’s underneath the hood of the 2023 Chevy Tahoe, it’s only fitting that we get behind the wheel and examine the interior. Because aside from the storage and seating you’ll be taking advantage of, this is also where you’ll be spending most of your time.

Storage Space

Perhaps the most impressive feature, or at least one of them, is the ample amount of available storage space that the Tahoe offers. When the situation calls for it, over 122 cu.ft. of storage room can be had, meaning the yard sale searches can begin with unbridled enthusiasm. If it’s seating for your closest friends you’re in the market for, rejoice! The Tahoe seats eight adults comfortably. And if the adults have plenty of room to stretch their legs and relax, imagine how much space there is for the soccer team, not to mention passengers of the younger and shorter variety.

Infotainment and Connectivity

These advantages aside, the driver’s area of the 2023 Chevy Tahoe is a source of enthusiasm and excitement. Complemented by a futuristic feel, the redesigned interior is anchored by the available infotainment screen, which extends past ten inches for outstanding clarity. Compatibility with Apple and Android products is standard, as is a Wi-Fi hotspot. For those looking to maximize their entertainment, an available 10-speaker stereo system from Bose can accommodate this need easily.

While the infotainment screen placed atop the dashboard was the first item to catch our eye and gauge interest, it’s hardly the most exciting part of the recent redesign. A retractable lid on the center console and push-button gear shifters complete the futuristic aesthetic of the Tahoe. While the size, scope, and performance of the Tahoe have remained unchanged since the vehicle’s formative years, the new touches to the interior are a welcomed addition.

Safety

In recent years, Chevy, and its parent company, GM, have been at the forefront of developing technology that enhances the driving experience and provides oversight regarding safety. And in an age where many manufacturers are obscuring their technologies with a hefty price tag, Chevy is once again equipping their vehicles with generous attributes across all levels of trim.

The Chevy Safety Assist Suite

All Tahoe models come standard with a comprehensive suite of safety and driving assistance features via the Chevy Safety Assist suite. To assist drivers with reaction time in the event of a potential collision, Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Alert are in place to help. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning is also there for moments when it appears you may be drifting out of your lane.

Also helping in this matter is the Following Distance Indicator, which reminds drivers when they’re too close and their reaction time might be difficult. To ensure the safety of those you share the road with, Front Pedestrian Braking is included, as are Intellibeam headlamps. While these features are self-explanatory, the latter is meant to enhance visibility with the vehicle’s high beams when conditions prevent it and disengage them in the presence of oncoming traffic.

Super Cruise

One of the most exciting developments to arrive in recent years is available on the Premier and High Country trims. And, for those who plan on utilizing the Tahoe for long road trips and excursions that cross state lines, it’s far too impressive to pass up. Referred to by the GM brand as “Super Cruise,” this semi-autonomous driving mode has several thousands of pre-programmed roads that allow for hands-free driving. When used with adaptive cruise control, which is also available, the technology works with you on your travels to ensure that a safe distance and less stress are utilized for your journey.
