Everyone knows the Chevy Equinox, one of Chevy’s best-selling vehicles and the go-to SUV for millions of drivers. The Chevy Equinox EV (electric vehicle), however, is the electric variant of this bespoke SUV, promising recognizable versatility and reliability but with a new way of powering everything. The Chevy Equinox EV is the SUV that will change your life and will be the first vehicle to make as much of an impact on your life as your first one did if not more, thanks to the money you’ll save when driving an EV like the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV.
The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV was launched segmentally. This is to say the list of trims slowly rolled out, with the 2RS being the first of the batch, followed by the launch of the remaining trims: 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and 3RS. Like the vehicle it draws its name from, the Equinox EV’s trims add upon one another with better materials, features, and more. Not to be misconstrued, the 2024 Equinox EV is a technologically superior vehicle to many vehicles in the market, owing to larger-than-life infotainment centers, advanced safety suites, premium amenities, and, of course, the removal of gasoline, which saves two things: the environment, and your wallet.

Electric vehicles are very unlike their gasoline-powered counterparts, not only in theory but also in practice. Like other EVs, the 2024 Chevy Equinox EV feels unique in how it operates. Between its One Pedal Driving and Regenerative Braking, the 2024 Equinox EV is the first time a vehicle with the Equinox moniker feels distinctly unique. The Equinox isn’t Chevy’s first electric SUV, with the Bolt EUV pre-dating its launch, but many would consider it the first electric Chevy SUV more people were generally looking forward to, partly due to its DNA ties to the traditional Equinox.
With nothing under the hood but an empty vessel for cargo space – commonly known as a ‘frunk’ – the magic of an EV happens underneath the car, where you’ll find its battery cells and electric motors. The Equinox EV is a BEV, which is to say it draws its power from nothing else but electricity. A highlight of the Equinox EV is the combined efforts of said battery and motors that create 290 hp along with the added benefit of eAWD. This performance exceeds what the Bolt EUV capped out at 200 hp. The amount of performance is staggering, and the combined horsepower output is only the start – it takes only half a dozen seconds to reach 60 mph from zero, and there’s a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs.
The beauty of the Equinox EV’s powertrain is its mileage range. The 2024 Equinox EV is an example of an electric vehicle coming out swinging and proves if there’s one thing these types of vehicles aren’t experiencing anymore, it’s growing pains. If you buy the base Equinox EV, you can travel around 250 miles before another charge is required. An extended-range option, on the other hand, increases the mileage range to 300 miles. However, the extended-range option allows for eAWD, which still outdoes the standard range variant of the powertrain with 280 miles of travel range before the next charge.
EVs have various ways to extend your travel length, like the usage of Regenerative Braking. Regenerative Braking can extend the length of travel by supplying small pockets of energy back to the battery, kinetic energy that stems from the friction of your wheels when you apply the brakes. One Pedal Driving can greatly enhance the longevity of your battery charge, too. With One Pedal Driving, you don’t apply the brakes unless you need to, and instead, lifting your foot off the accelerator pedal will begin to bring your vehicle to a stop. It takes some getting used to, but it makes driving easier in the city, whether in urban or suburban neighborhoods.
As for charging the battery, you can use either Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 charging, with the former two being 120V and 240V charging solutions, respectively. Level 3 Charging is restricted to public areas but is the most effective – 70 miles added in 10 minutes – but an 11.5 kW Level 2 charger comes standard with 34 miles added every hour. There’s also a Level 2 19.2 Kw charger only for the 3RS trim, and this increases the range by 51 miles each hour.
The 2024 Equinox EV is one of Chevy’s most technologically advanced vehicles ever created. For many things the Equinox does right, the Equinox EV will take it one step further. For example, the 2024 Equinox comes equipped with a 7-inch infotainment center, which is on par with many other vehicles within its price range – especially the 8-inch infotainment center. However, the 2024 Equinox EV isn’t satisfied with any of that and implements an infotainment center with a screen that measures up to 17.7 inches diagonally. Even the base 2024 Equinox EV has an 11-inch infotainment center, which already lends it a more luxurious look and feels against plenty of the competition it’s facing.
New screen technology and advancements in infotainment center software make it clear that Chevy is coming for the crown of other distinguished high-tech manufacturers, like Tesla. The 17.7-inch infotainment center in the Chevy Equinox EV will house multiple functions. The functions within the infotainment center include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there’s more than enough screen real-estate to view heaps of information at a glance, including battery capacity, navigation, media playback, and climate controls, among others.
The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV also has a tangible volume knob, which is important because 2024 is a time when many manufacturers are learning that consumers prefer physical knobs for various controls, if not to retain better muscle memory and quickly achieve things like adjusting music volume, turning off the heat, and more. No matter which infotainment center you get, it’ll intersect stylishly with the 11-inch Driver Information Center directly behind your steering wheel, where all your gauges will be shown digitally, all shown with a sleek software aesthetic matching the theme of the infotainment center for a more unified experience.
A highly-requested feature for the 2024 Equinox EV has been Super Cruise, but it was always bound to have it as Chevy’s past EV SUV efforts – the Bolt EUV – famously debuted the technology with the launch of the 2021 model. Since then, Super Cruise has become far more useful as more compatible roads are consistently added to the program. When driving on one of these verified roads, a light bar atop your steering wheel will glow green, at which point activating Super Cruise means you can take your hands off the wheel and move your foot up from the pedal. Super Cruise does everything it needs to do to ensure safe assistive travel, including bringing your car up to the speed limit, slowing down for traffic and obstructing vehicles, and providing steering input when and where applicable.
It’s no surprise the 2024 Equinox EV is one of Chevy’s most pronounced attempts at safety and reliability, given the technological inner workings of the Equinox EV and every other PHEV or BEV on the market. However, Chevy’s other vehicles for the 2024 model year share a similar thought process by Chevy’s engineers, which is why vehicles like the 2024 Equinox EV come with Chevy Safety Assist standard. The 2024 Equinox EV wouldn’t be complete without safety features, so it’s a natural fit to implement the advanced features into a vehicle with advanced technology, all at no additional cost.
With Chevy Safety Assist included, the 2024 Equinox EV includes Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, a Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Intellibeam Automatic High Beams. The 2024 Equinox EV also includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, all thanks to advanced sensors and the Rear Vision Camera.
Chevy Safety Assist doesn’t only change the game of safety for the newer vehicles like the Equinox EV, Silverado EV, and other electric vehicles Chevy plans on releasing in the future, but it’s a suite of features everyone can enjoy throughout Chevy’s lineup. With the Chevy Safety Assist suite in the 2024 Equinox EV, the aforementioned features come into play in multiple situations. The Automatic Emergency Braking and Front Pedestrian Braking can stop your vehicle to prevent a crash, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning keeps your vehicle in the correct intended lane via alerts and a slight bit of steering intervention.
The Rear Park Assist also keeps you from hitting any objects behind you when reversing into a tight parking space. There are uses for every safety feature in Chevy Safety Assist – and the 2024 Equinox EV, by extension – as if there weren’t any need for a particular feature, it wouldn’t come with the car. Every safety feature that comes with the 2024 Equinox EV can come into use when required.
The Rear Vision Camera can be swapped out for an HD Surround Vision camera with a plethora of camera views to choose from and view through your infotainment center, but the 2024 Equinox EV can also turn your rearview mirror into a screen and show the camera feed there too. There’s also a standard safety seat that will provide haptic feedback if it detects you’re in imminent danger and need to apply the brakes.
