Chevy Tahoe vs Suburban: Which Three-Row SUV Is Best for You?

This is a great question and one that we are asked often by our customers who know they need a large and spacious SUV but who aren’t sure which of Chevy’s two impressive options is ideal. Whether you’re already strongly considering a Chevy Tahoe for sale near Marietta or you are still weighing the pros and cons of both of these two SUVs, we are here to help.

The right one for you ultimately depends on what you need from your next ride, especially when it comes to how much room you want inside your SUV. Both of these vehicles have a lot in common, so you can get nearly identical features on them, but they are different in overall size and have very different amounts of cargo room inside. Let’s take a closer look at the similarities and differences between the Tahoe and Suburban to figure out which one is right for you.

Similar Features: Performance

Before we get into what distinguishes these two SUVs from each other, we thought it would help to first look at how they’re similar because they honestly have more in common than not. These are both full-size Chevy SUVs with similar styling, although the Suburban is decidedly larger overall (we’ll get into that more in a moment) and is one of the biggest SUVs on the market. Looking at the 2025 models, just to keep things simple, both of these vehicles have three engines available, starting with a 5.3L Ecotec3 V8 that provides 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.

If you want upgraded power, then you can also choose a 6.2L Ecotec3 V8 engine for either of these models, which delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is an available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. We don’t have to tell you how rare it is to find a diesel engine on an SUV, which makes this a remarkable option if it’s something you’re interested in. You get a ten-speed automatic transmission on both SUVs, no matter which engine you choose, and you can pick between rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive to get the feel you prefer when driving around Marietta.

Similar Features: Interior Comfort

These are both incredibly spacious SUVs with three rows of seating, making them fantastic for large families or other situations where you need to have a lot of people along with you. Both can accommodate seven or eight passengers, depending on which trim level and options you choose, so keep that in mind. Your biggest decision here is the trim that you want, since that has a tremendous impact on what you get. The standard LS trims for both SUVs include front bucket seats with an eight-way power driver’s seat, a six-way power front-passenger seat, and a second-row bench for eight-passenger seating.

Keyless Open with Remote Start functionality is standard on both models, along with Adaptive Cruise Control and tri-zone automatic climate control to keep your passengers comfortable. If you want more refined and sophisticated features, then the High Country trims for these two SUVs are perfect. Last but far from least, Chevy also gives you incredible safety technology in both of these vehicles to protect you while driving around Marietta. Both models come with a Forward Collision Alert with Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, including Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking. Different Aspects: Exterior Size

We’ve said a lot about what both of these vehicles offer (and honestly, we could keep going), but what about the details that set them apart? It mostly comes down to their difference in size. Although these are both full-size SUVs, they’re not identical, and the Tahoe is a bit smaller overall than the Suburban. Neither will win any awards for being demure, but it’s still worth figuring out which one will fit better into your lifestyle.

The Chevy Tahoe measures just over 211 inches in overall length, 81 inches in width, and stands about 76 inches tall. By comparison, the Suburban is more than 226 inches long, 81 inches wide, and around 76 inches in height. So you can see that while their height and width are the same, the Suburban is more than a foot longer than the Tahoe.

Different Aspects: Interior Space

That difference in overall length is worth keeping in mind since it can impact how well your SUV fits into your garage, but it also translates into some interior differences, too. When it comes to passenger space, both the Tahoe and Suburban give you about 42 inches of headroom and 44 inches of legroom up front, along with 39 inches of headroom and 42 inches of legroom in the second row. While both of these vehicles have about 38 inches of rear-seat headroom, the Tahoe gives your third-row passengers nearly 35 inches of legroom, whereas the Suburban offers them almost 37 inches of legroom.

Two inches might not make all the difference when deciding which model is right for you, but they’re more significantly different in terms of cargo space. In the back, the Tahoe has about 25 cu.ft. of rear cargo space compared to more than 41 cu.ft. of rear cargo volume in the Suburban. Similarly, you get just over 72 cu.ft. of space behind the Tahoe’s second row, while the Suburban gives you more than 93 cu.ft. of space. Finally, the Suburban offers an incredible 144 cu.ft. of total cargo volume behind the front row, and the Tahoe provides about 122 cu.ft. behind its front seats. These are significant differences that could be your deciding factor.

Which Chevy SUV Has What You Need?

As you can see, these two SUVs have far more similarities than differences. Ultimately, your big decision probably comes down to how much longer the Suburban is than the Tahoe and how much more interior cargo space it provides due to that difference. This is also why the Suburban starts at a price about $3k more than the Tahoe; that might not be the only factor that makes this decision for you, but it’s one more thing to consider.
