The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV Rockets Into the Future

Powering the Blazer EV

Chevy has chosen to use the Ultium architecture for the Blazer EV. This is a set of lithium-ion battery cells placed in the undercarriage of the vehicle. This design provides a number of critical advantages. First, it shields the battery in one of the safest locations in the vehicle. The area under the passenger compartment has steel framing that provides protection for the battery in the case of a collision.

Second, placing the battery under the passenger compartment allows for greater passenger and cargo space inside the vehicle. Many early electrified models put the battery behind the rear seat. This had the dual disadvantages of taking crucial space away from the passengers seated in the last row and from the cargo space in the trunk. With the Ultium design, the Blazer EV affords passengers seated in the back a very comfortable 38.9 inches of legroom. At the same time, you get 25.5 cu.ft. of space in the trunk for all of your belongings.

Three Choices of Trim, Three Choices of Powertrain

For the 2024 Blazer EV, Chevy has decided to go with three different trim and powertrain choices. This is in keeping with Chevy’s understanding that each driver may have different needs and interests. Some folks are looking for an economical daily driver, while others crave performance. Then there are those who want range for long trips. Just like so many of its other vehicles, Chevy has given this versatility to the Blazer EV. Still, each trim has the sporty lines and sleek styling that you know and love.

The three trims are the 2LT, RS, and SS. The Blazer EV 2LT is the entry-level trim, and it rides on a set of 19-inch wheels. This trim features an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery in a dual motor configuration. This means that there are two motors, one for each axle, giving it all-wheel drive. As a result, the Blazer EV 2LT has an estimated range of 279 miles on a fully charged battery pack. This trim also features advanced technology, such as an 11-inch diagonal Driver Information Center that provides important info like speed and remaining charge. You also get an infotainment system with an expansive 17.7-inch touchscreen display. This allows you to connect your devices and make hands-free calls and texts. It even has Google built-in, giving you unfettered access to many of your favorite apps. Finally, the Blazer EV features a standard Chevy Safety Assist suite of six advanced driver assistance technologies across all trims, with other Safety Assist features available as options.

The sporty Blazer EV RS builds upon the features in the 2LT with larger 21-inch wheels, special exterior accents, luxurious Evotex seats, and a choice of two different powertrains. In addition to the standard range all-wheel drive option featured on the 2LT, you can also get a higher-performance rear-wheel drive powertrain. This operates off a larger 102 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and delivers an extended estimated range of 324 miles. This powertrain is also more powerful, with a single electric motor located in the rear axle, delivering 340 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.

If you have a need for speed, then the Blazer EV SS is the one for you. This trim uses the 102 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to power dual motors, one for each axle. This gives the Blazer EV SS all-wheel drive, a nice bonus when driving in inclement weather. It also delivers an incredible 557 hp and 648 lb-ft of torque. The result is a Blazer EV that can go from zero to 60 mph in under four seconds when using the Wide Open Watts performance mode. In other modes, you can drive an estimated 294 miles on a fully charged battery pack. The Blazer EV SS rides on a set of multi-finish 22-inch wheels. This trim is even available with Super Cruise, which allows you to enjoy hands-free driving on specially mapped roads. This may come in handy to reduce driver fatigue if you are out on a long road trip. Super Cruise driver assistance technology currently has 750,000 miles of compatible roads in the US and Canada.

Keeping Your Blazer EV Charged Up

One question that we often get asked is how to keep an EV charged. Fortunately, Chevy has developed three excellent ways to keep your 2024 Blazer EV charged up, whether you are close to home or out on a road trip.

The easiest way to keep it recharged is with Level 1 or Level 2 home charging. If you have an external outlet at home, whether attached to your house or inside the garage, that is all you need to charge your car. Simply park your Blazer EV, plug the Dual Level Charging Cord into the outlet, and attach it to the charging port. If you are using a 240-volt outlet, you can recharge your battery in a few hours. The Regen on Demand feature, when used in conjunction with One Pedal Driving, will help you recapture some energy every time you slow down or step on the brakes. This helps extend the range of your vehicle. It is also why you actually get more range in a BEV when doing local driving than you do on the highway.
