  • Performance

A red 2023 Chevy Equinox RS is shown driving on a highway away from a city.

The Equinox is powered by a turbocharged 1.5L engine that provides you with 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque. You can pair that power with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on whether you prioritize the efficiency of FWD or the extra traction of AWD. An Equinox with FWD gets a combined EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 28 MPG, while an AWD model is slightly less efficient, with a combined rating of 26 MPG, though it can get up to 30 MPG when driving on the highway. With the available switchable AWD, you can get the best of both worlds, sending power only to the front wheels when driving on well-maintained roads during good weather and turning on AWD when you want that extra bit of confidence during a rainy day or on a dirt road.

    Driver Shift Controls

Whether you opt for front or all-wheel drive, you’ll get a six-speed automatic transmission. It provides gear shifts that are nice and smooth, so you can sit back and enjoy the ride. However, if you want to switch between gears manually, you can switch to a clutchless sequential manual using the included Driver Shift Controls. With this simple interface, you can have more precise control over the vehicle’s operation when you want it, but leave the gear changing up to the automatic system when you don’t. An electronic parking brake comes standard across all trims so that you can put it in place with the touch of a button. The system will even set the parking brake automatically if it senses that you’ve parked on a steep enough incline.

    Automatic Stop/Start Technology

The engine uses Automatic Stop/Start technology to help save fuel. When you’ve come to a complete stop, under certain conditions, the engine shuts off until you remove your foot from the brake. That way, you don’t waste fuel by idling while waiting at a long light cycle or sitting in stop-and-go traffic, so you can go longer between gas stops and spend less money on fuel over time. But if you’re in a situation where you want to keep the engine on while stopping, then you can simply toggle a switch to turn the feature off.

  • Design

A grey 2023 Chevy Equinox Premier is shown from a rear angle driving past a rock face.

Across all trim levels, the Equinox has a stylish and practical design inside and out. The interior is spacious and versatile, with a maximum cargo volume of 63.9 cu.ft. Accessing the cargo is easy, even if your hands are full, thanks to the available hands-free power liftgate. In addition to the rear cargo hold and the space you can gain by folding down the second row of seating, there’s a hidden storage compartment under the floor, so you can keep your valuables out of sight while your Equinox is parked. The back row of seating has a 60/40 split so you can change up the balance between passengers and cargo from trip to trip.

    The Chevy Equinox RS

When it comes to style, you have plenty of different options, each with its own distinct personality. If you like a sporty look, consider the RS trim. The exterior features dark accents like 19-inch Dark Android-painted aluminum wheels, a black Chevy bowtie emblem, and black badging. Gloss black accents like the mesh grille, side rails, and windows complement any exterior paint color that suits your style. Inside, you’ll find jet-black seats with bold red contrast stitching, black ice chrome accents, and a black headliner.

    The Chevy Equinox Midnight Edition

If you’re opting for the more affordable LS trim, you can still get a unique and stylish look by opting for the Midnight Edition. As you may have guessed, this package focuses heavily on black, from the unique mold-in-color grille to the gloss black wheels to the bowties in the front and back. If you want to make an entrance with a vehicle that has a classy, cohesive look, the Midnight Edition Equinox is a great choice.

    The Chevy Equinox Redline Edition

On the top-tier Premier trim, you can make the Equinox your own with the Redline Edition. In addition to black accents like door handles, window surrounds, and black ice interior accents, you’ll get some splashes of red. These subtle red accents on the wheels, decals, and badging bring an extra layer of complexity to the exterior design and make it stand out wherever you're traveling.

  • Safety

A close up of the infotainment screen on a 2023 Chevy Equinox is shown.

Every driver is unique and has their own set of priorities, from space to fuel efficiency to style, but one thing that just about everyone can agree is important is safety. Driving can be dangerous, so you want to know that your vehicle has every advantage, from basic construction to high-tech features, to help you stay safe on the road. The 2023 Equinox earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration thanks to its crashworthiness and standard onboard safety tech. It also earned five stars in the categories of Frontal Crash and Side Crash, having proven itself in crash tests.

The Standard Chevy Safety Assist Suite

Plenty of high-tech driver assistance features come standard across all trim levels of the 2023 Equinox. If you want to save some money by opting for the affordable LS trim, you can feel confident that you aren’t cutting corners when it comes to safety. Standard Chevy Safety Assist features for the Equinox include:

    • Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking can sense when a collision with the vehicle in front of you is imminent and respond with a warning so that you can take swift action. If you don’t hit the brakes in time, the system can brake automatically or supplement manual braking to avoid or mitigate damage.
    • Front Pedestrian Braking system keeps the people around your vehicle safe by detecting pedestrians in front of you and providing emergency braking if needed.
    • Following Distance Indicator shows you how far away you are from the vehicle in front of you, so you can maintain a safe distance with plenty of time to brake in the case of a sudden slow-down or stop.
    • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning uses visual and audio alerts to let you know when you’re unintentionally drifting out of your lane and can also use gently corrective steering to keep you going straight.
    • Intellibeam Auto High Beam Assist turns your high beams on and off automatically based on the real-time shifting of lighting and traffic conditions so that you can drive safely at night.
